August 16, 2005 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - Memphis wide receiver/defensive back TERRELL ADAMS, Rio Grande Valley wide receiver/defensive back MARQUIS FLOYD and Memphis defensive specialist DAHNEL SINGFIELD have been named the Offensive Player, U.S. Army Ironman and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for the Semifinals of the 2005 ArenaCup Playoffs.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Adams (5-9, 190, Mississippi Valley State), in his second season, helped the Memphis Xplorers defeat the Amarillo Dusters 71-30 on Friday night to give the Xplorers its first ever playoff win. On the night Adams caught two touchdown passes, rushed for two touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass. The difference in the game was a 37-0 scoring run by the Xplorers through the third and parts of the second and fourth quarters. In this stretch Adams rushed for two touchdowns, threw his touchdown pass, caught one of his touchdown passes and while not applicable for this honor, also recovered a fumble in the endzone for a touchdown. This is the second time this season Adams has won a weekly award. In Week 17 Adams won the U.S. Army Ironman of the Week award.

U.S. ARMY IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Floyd (6-0, 190, West Georgia), in his second season, made big plays on both sides of the ball to help the Rio Grande Valley Dorados upset the Tulsa Talons 65-42 at the Tulsa Convention Center. Floyd was the leading receiver of the game, catching nine passes for 139 yards and three touchdowns. On defense he intercepted a pass, broke up another pass and recorded a tackle. On special teams Floyd recovered a Tulsa onside kick and returned it ten yards for a touchdown. The Dorados jumped out to a 14-0 lead and controlled the game the rest of the way and Floyd is the reason they jumped out to this lead. On third down Floyd caught a 19-yard touchdown pass to give the Dorados the early 7-0 lead. On Tulsa's first possession he intercepted a pass in the endzone. Floyd and the rest of the Dorados defense shutdown Tulsa offensive specialist Donovan Morgan. Morgan set the record for touchdown receptions in a season this year and had five touchdown catches in each of the two previous games against the Dorados. But when it mattered most Floyd and the Dorados found an answer for Morgan. He won this same award in Week 12 of this season.

ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Singfield (6-2, 190, Buffalo), in his second season, looked like a true defensive stopper in Memphis' 71-30 victory over the Amarillo Dusters on Friday night. The win was the first playoff victory in franchise history for the Xplorers. Singfield was part of a defense that allowed the high scoring Dusters' offense just 30 points and only 14 points through three quarters. Singfield registered 11.5 tackles (9UA-5AT) and recovered a fumble on the night. His fumble came on a second down play near the end of the second quarter to halt an Amarillo drive before it could even begin. Singfield won this same award in Week 12 of this season. Memphis hosts Rio Grande Valley in the National Conference Championship Game on Friday night.
