Florida Panthers Sign Mike Kostka

SUNRISE, Fla. (June 30, 2011) - Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman Mike Kostka on a one-year, two way contract.

Kostka, 25, appeared in 80 games with the Rochester Americans (AHL) last season, leading the team with 55 points, while ranking first on the club among defensemen with 16 goals and 39 assists. He has skated in 237 career American Hockey League (AHL) games, posting 20 goals and 90 assists over the course of four seasons split between Portland and Rochester. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound blue liner, spent two seasons (2008-10) playing for Florida Panthers Head Coach Kevin Dineen, when they were both with the Portland Pirates.

The Etobicoke, Ontario native played four years of college hockey at the University of Massachusetts (2004-08). During the 2007-08 season, he served as his club's captain and was named team MVP.
