TODAY'S GAME: Game two of a three-game series against the Lakeland Flying Tigers (DET) from Osceola County Stadium (0-1)...Game five of a six-game six-game homestand against the Jupiter Hammerheads (MIA) and Flying Tigers (1-3)...Florida is coming off a series loss to the Hammerheads to open the homestand after dropping the rubber match on Thursday night...Fourth, and final, series (13 games) between Florida and Lakeland in 2018, with Florida leading the trailing the series, 4-7...The Fire Frogs dropped a three-game series at home against the Detroit Tigers' affiliate at Osceola County Stadium from April 20-22.
TODAY'S STARTING PITCHER: 21-year-old Albinson Volquez makes his High-A debut in game two of the three-game series against the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Saturday night...The right-hander was 2-3 with a 5.06 ERA (30er/53.1) in 12 games (11 starts) with the GCL Braves...The Jimani, Dominican Republic native last pitched on Aug. 20 against the GCL Yankees East, tossing six shutout frames while giving up four hits, walking one and striking out four.
DAVIDSON CONTINUES HOT STRETCH IN LOSS TO LAKELAND: Tucker Davidson continued his dominance over the Lakeland Flying Tigers with six scoreless frames in the opener of the three-game, weekend set on Friday night, but the Florida Fire Frogs missed out on offensive chances in the 2-0 defeat at Osceola County Stadium.
Lakeland plated the two runs of the night with a solo home run from AJ Simcox in the seventh and an RBI single from Daniel Pinero in the eighth.
ANOTHER DAVIDSON DANDY: Tucker Davidson scattered four hits through the night, walked just one batter, and punched out seven...The Atlanta Braves' 25th-ranked prospect (MLB.com) has not allowed a run to Lakeland (34-24, 70-58) over his last two starts, covering 13.1 innings of work...During the month of August, the Midland College product is only 1-2, but has an ERA of 2.33 (7er/27.0ip) to go along with 32 strikeouts.
LET THE WATER FLOW: Drew Waters extended his hitting streak to nine games with a double in the eighth inning...The switch hitter is batting .342 (13-for-38) with six runs scored, four doubles, a triple and an RBI out of the lead-off spot of all nine games during the streak...The 19-year-old is also in the middle of a 14-game on-base streak, in which he is hitting .353 since Aug. 10.
SPOILER ALERT: With the Fire Frogs being eliminated from playoff contention, the team's role through the remaining 10 games will be to play "spoiler." Of the remaining contests, six are against teams in the top two of their respective divisions (LAK - two games/four games back, CHA - four games/0.5-game lead).
JUMPING IN THE SHOW: Former Florida starter Bryse Wilson made his big league debut with the Atlanta Braves on Monday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, earning the win with no runs allowed on three hits, three walks and five strikeouts across five frames...The Braves 13th-ranked prospect (MLB.com) became the seventh Fire Frog to make it to the show, joining LHP A.J. Minter, LHP Luiz Gohara, LHP Adam McCreery, RHP Chad Sobotka, RHP Touki Toussaint and OF Ronald Acuna...The 20-year-old appeared in only five games at the High-A level this season, posting a 2-0 record with an ERA of just 0.34 (1er/26.2ip).
BUILDING THE PIPELINE: MLB Pipeline revealed its updated prospect rankings, and nine Atlanta Braves farmhands cracked the top-100...Of the nine, seven either currenlty played, or have previously played for the Fire Frogs: Kyle Wright (24), Ian Anderson (38), Austin Riley (43), Cristian Pache (57), Luiz Gohara (61), Touki Toussaint (76), and Drew Waters (98).
