FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League jumped out to an early lead but had to come-from behind in a 5-3 victory over the Port Huron Beacons in exhibition action Thursday night at Perani Arena. Center John DiPace led the charge with two goals.
Flint struck first as DiPace opened the scoring just 2:55 into the contest. Port Huron would storm back with with three goals in 3:33 seconds on goals by Mat Goody (6:53) and power play markers by Drew Power (8:15) and Josh Tataryn (10:26) for a 3-1 first period lead.
Flint closed the gap to 3-2 in the second period on a power play goal by left wing Joel Maas at 16:06. The Generals wrapped it up in the third period with three unanswered goals by DiPace (:14), center Frank Curto (7:17) and right wing Mike Kinnie (15:16).
The Generals hosts the Jr. Generals on Friday, October 8, 2004 at 7:35 p.m. The proceeds will go to benefit the youth minor hockey programs in Genesee County and surrounding areas. General admission donation of $5.00 is suggested in this fundraising effort.
Flint returns to league exhibition play on Saturday, October 9, 2004 against the Port Huron Beacons at Perani Arena beginning at 7:35 p.m.
The regular season home opener is Friday, October 15, 2004 against the Muskegon Fury at Perani Arena beginning at 7:35 p.m. Ticket prices are $13.00, $11.00 and $9.00.
