Wichita Thunder News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder today announced the signings of goaltender Jason Flick and forward Mike Carter, as well as defensemen Daniel Tetrault (pronounced TET-troh) and Derek Boyle.

Flick returns to the Thunder after putting up phenomenal numbers in his rookie season. In 31 games, the 26-year-old netminder went 19-8-1 with a 2.63 goals against average and a .911 save percentage.

Flick turned it on in the postseason, winning six games and guiding the Thunder within two games of the CHL Finals. He made 36 saves in a 1-0 first round playoff win over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, then had his best effort of the season in game four of the Northern Conference Finals, making 33 saves in a 3-0 win over Colorado. His four total shutouts were a Thunder single season record.

Carter also returns to the Thunder for a second season. A very speedy forward, Carter notched 33 points in his rookie campaign and missed just one game all season. A 25-year-old native of Cambridge, Ontario, Carter's 12 goals ranked 13th among all CHL rookies.

Perhaps the biggest offseason addition to the Thunder lineup, Tetrault joins the Thunder from the New Mexico Scorpions, where he played the last two seasons. A 1997 fourth round draft pick of the Montreal Canadiens, Tetrault began his pro career in 2000 with the Austin Ice Bats, and a year later was named the CHL's Most Outstanding Defenseman, notching 43 points in 58 games.

A two-time CHL All-Star, Tetrault also spent part of the 2002 and 2003 seasons with the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, notching four points in 34 games. In 310 pro games, Tetrault has amassed 52 goals and 159 points. He has also attended NHL training camp in Montreal twice during his career.

Boyle joins the Thunder from the Alberta Junior Hockey League's (AJHL) Fort McMurray Oil Barons, where he notched 14 points and 147 penalty minutes in just 36 games last season. A very physical blueliner, the 20-year-old Boyle has totaled 23 points and 349 penalty minutes in 85 games the past two seasons.

In other news, the Thunder traded goaltender Jamie Vandespyker to the Amarillo Gorillas for future considerations. The new Thunder website was also unveiled today and features the first ever Thunder Message Board. The 2005 Thunder season DVD is also on sale now for $25.

The Thunder, who now have 14 players signed for the upcoming season, will open their 14th CHL season with a pair of home games on Friday, October 21st versus the Odessa Jackalopes and Saturday, October 22nd versus the Oklahoma City Blazers. Ticket prices for all Thunder games, the least expensive tickets in the CHL, will remain the same as last season, ranging from $8 to $16 each. Season tickets, also the best bargain in the entire CHL, are still on sale, ranging from $256 to $408 per seat.
