St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets completed a four-game sweep over the Daytona Tortugas with a rain-shortened 7-0 win on Saturday at Tradition Field.
Mets starter Chris Flexen blanked the Tortugas for six innings. He scattered five hits, walked one and struck out four. That concluded a dominant series for Mets starters, who held the Tortugas to three runs in 24 innings (1.13 ERA) over the four contests.
The Mets manufactured most of their runs. Two ground outs from John Mora plated a pair of runs. Luis Guillorme put a ball in play that was booted by Tortugas short stop Ronald Bueno leading to the game's first run in the second inning. Guillorme later added a RBI sac fly.
The big blast for the Mets came in the second when Jhoan Urena mashed a two-out, two-run homer off of Tejay Antone to put the Mets ahead 3-0.
Paul Paez recorded two outs in the top of the seventh before rain halted the game. The teams never restarted the game.
Kevin Kaczmarski went 2 for 4 with a double and a run.
With the victory the Mets improved to a season-best seven games over .500.
Next Up: The Mets (48-41, 13-9) welcome the Tampa Yankees to Tradition Field for a four-game series beginning Sunday. First pitch is 4 p.m.
For the Fans: On Sunday tickets are $4. Bloody Mary's, Budweiser Aluminum bottles, Barefoot wine and Italian sausages are $4 each.
