Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID (9/11/12) - The Idaho Steelheads added size and toughness to its training camp Tuesday when the team announced it has agreed to terms with defensemen Scott Fletcher and Scott Todd.
Training camp for the ECHL's Steelheads opens on October 1 at CenturyLink Arena in downtown Boise under new Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph.
Fletcher, 24, is going into his fourth professional season out of Detroit, Michigan. The 220-pound Fletcher has played 126 games at the ECHL level, including a career-high 57 with Toledo in 2010-11, and 14 games in the American Hockey League, the highest level of minor-league hockey in North America. In those 140 professional games, he has accumulated 373 penalty minutes along with another 632 during his major-junior hockey career in the Ontario Hockey League.
Ralph on Fletcher: "Scott is a guy with strong leadership qualities that came highly-recommended. He's big, he loves to play, he has a strong work ethic and he'll stick up for his teammates on the ice."
Todd will be competing as a professional for the first time. The 25-year-old checks in at 6-foot-4 and nearly 230 pounds coming out of the University of Windsor in Canada. In his final season with Windsor, Todd led the team in penalty minutes (98) and was third in assists (17). He was also selected by the Nashville Predators in the 7th round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft when he was playing major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League.
Ralph on Todd: "Scott's game matured a lot at the University of Windsor over the past few seasons. He's a big, defensive defenseman who plays very physical and is willing to fight when the need arises."
Despite playing three seasons in the OHL at the same time, the two enforcers have no fights against one another on record.
The 16th season of professional hockey in Boise kicks off on Friday, October 12, when the Idaho Steelheads host the Utah Grizzlies at CenturyLink Arena. Season Ticket packages are available now, starting at just $275 per seat for all 36 home games. Partial-season packages start at as little as $150 for fans who want a little more flexibility.
