Oklahoma City Blazers News Release

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed defensemen Tyler Fleck and goaltender Sean Connors to contracts, head coach Doug Sauter announced today.

Fleck, a 5-10, 215-pounder originally from Carlyle, Saskatchewan is entering his ninth season as a pro and his ninth in Oklahoma City. Fleck was consistent in his play again, scoring 19 points (5-14-19) and serving 144 penalty minutes while playing in 63 games with the Blazers last season. He was voted the hardest bodychecker in the league by his peers for the third straight season in the CHL's annual Best of the Best Poll. Fleck enters the 07-08 season ranked third on the Blazers all time list of games played at 426 and second in penalty minutes with 1,042. He was a member of the Blazers 2001 CHL championship squad.

The 6-1, 180-pound Connors is entering his fifth season of play as a pro and his fifth in Oklahoma City. The Okotoks, Alberta native posted a 16-9-7 record, 3.13 goals against average and .904 saves percentage during the regular season. Connors saved his best play for the playoffs. He posted a 6-3 record, 2.47 goals against average, .929 saves percentage and one shutout. He enters the 2007-08 ranked first or second in most Blazers goaltending statistics. That includes most saves in franchise history (4,396) and ranking second in games played (151), wins (71) and minutes played (8,701).

Both Fleck and Connors have played each of their games as a professional with Oklahoma City and both now reside in Oklahoma City.

"Both of these guys are entrenched as Blazers and in our community," said Sauter. "Tyler currently sits third in games played in our franchise, which means that he has lots of experience to draw from to lead the team. He has certainly developed into a good defenseman, but also brings family values, work ethic and community pride to our club. Sean was great in the playoffs for us. We hope that he can continue to give us a chance to win every time he is in net. He is now a family man and realizes that consistency in all areas is a key to being a leader on our club."

The addition of Fleck and Connors bring the number of players officially signed by the Blazers for the 07-08 season to 18. They join forwards Marty Standish, Garrett Prosofsky, Graham Dearle, Dallas Flaman, Erick Lizon, Ryan Watson, Gordon Bell and Marc Connors, blueliners Peter Robertson, Stacey Bauman, Mike Burgoyne, Kevin Wilson, Jason Seerey, Sean Kotary and Jonathan Lacasse and goaltender Jason Wolfe.

The Blazers open training camp October 8 at the Blazers Ice Centre. Play begins in sweet season 16 in the Central Hockey League October 19 at the Ford Center against the Youngstown Steelhounds. For more information, contact the Blazers office at 235-PUCK.
