Flames Prospects, UNB Varsity Reds to Face Off in Charity Game

Saint John, NB â The Saint John Flames Hockey Club and the University of New Brunswick Athletics Department today announced an exhibition game between the Flames prospects and the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds men's hockey team. The game, which will raise funds for charity, is scheduled for Monday, September 30, at 7:00 p.m. at the Aitken University Centre in Fredericton.
"This contest will provide us an extra opportunity to view our prospects in a game situation," stated Flames head coach Jim Playfair. "We look forward to evaluating these players against a seasoned Varsity Reds team."
"This is a great opportunity for our players to see their first pre-season action against the Flames," stated Varsity Reds Coach Gardiner MacDougall. "We look forward to a fast paced, entertaining and highly skilled game. This pre-season challenge will be a very positive event for fans of both teams and we trust it will be the beginning of a great partnership between our team, the Saint John Flames and KidSport."
All tickets for the game will be general admission and are priced at $8:00 for adults, $5.00 for seniors, $3.00 for students with I.D., children 12 under by donation only. Tickets will be available at the Aitken Centre Box Office beginning Monday, September 23. Tickets may be purchased from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. or by calling 506-453-5054. Tickets may also be purchased in person at Mazzuca's Variety Store, York Street, Fredericton. Varsity Reds season ticket passes will not be valid for this charity contest. All proceeds raised by the event will be donated to the KidSport Fund.
The KidSport Fund, administered by Sport New Brunswick, is designed to assist children of families facing financial obstacles to participate in community sport programs. The fund provides these children with the opportunity to achieve physical, social, intellectual and moral development through participation in sport.
The 2002-03 season marks the Saint John Flames' tenth as a member of the AHL and as the primary development organization of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames.
The Varsity Reds Men's Hockey Team will be hosting the 2003 and 2004 CIS Hockey Championships.
