Rockford, Ill.-Rockford IceHogs Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations Mike Kalinowski has been named the Public Relations Director for the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League. Manchester serves as the primary affiliate of the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings. IceHogs General Manager Ryan Washatka made the announcement Friday.
Kalinowski, 31, a native of Alexandria, Minn., spent one season with the IceHogs. The three-year UHL veteran was honored as the league's Public Relations Director of the Year at the close of the 2001-02 season. Kalinowski is the second IceHogs front office staff member to accept a promotion to the AHL this summer. Former General Manager Kevin Cummings was hired as an Executive Vice President for the Worcester IceCats in June.
"I'm obviously happy because I've been searching for an opportunity like this one for quite some time," said Kalinowski, who served as a college hockey broadcaster for eight years before turning his attention to the pro game. "I couldn't be happier, because the Monarchs are a strong franchise with a great future."
"The IceHogs strive to create an entertaining product on and off the ice, and it's exciting to see our employees get recognized for their efforts," said Washatka. "We'll miss Mike, but we're very excited for him."
A graduate of St. Cloud State University (Minn.), Kalinowski previously served as the Director of Communications for the now-defunct Mohawk Valley Prowlers of the UHL before coming to Rockford last August. He will remain with the IceHogs through the end of the September.
