Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, Va. - Duane Erwin recorded a huge double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing a team-record 22 rebounds to help the Florida Flame snap a six-game losing streak and beat the Roanoke Dazzle 96-82 at the Roanoke Civic Center.

The Dazzle opened the game, looking as though they might not miss the services of their departed all D-League backcourt combo of Will Bynum and Anthony Grundy. Isiah Victor scored 15 of his game-high 25 points in the first half as the Dazzle were able to take a 51-49 lead into the locker room.

The Flame opened the second half with a 19-4 run to race out to a 68-55 lead at the 5:30 mark of the third quarter. The Dazzle were able to rally at the end of the frame and cut the Flame lead to eight, 73-65.

The fourth quarter would be all Flame, as they extended their lead to double digits on their first possession of the frame and would never let the lead slip from there. The Flame lead would grow to as many as 16 points before reaching the final difference of 14 at 96-82.

The Flame were able to out rebound the Dazzle 55-40. This included a six rebound edge on the offensive glass which translated to a 19-10 advantage in second chance points.

"We put it all together," said Flame Head Coach Jeff Malone. "We hit a stretch of games where we just stopped making free-throws. We could easily be on a four out of five winning streak."

For the game, the Flame had six players score in double figures including two with double-doubles. Bracey Wright had 20 points to lead the way, Erwin recorded his double-double of 18 points and 22 rebounds, Austin Nichols also scored 18, George Leach recorded a double-double with 16 points to go with 12 boards, Lenny Stokes and Reed Rawlings both chipped in with 12 points.

The Dazzle found the game tough going with their star backcourt in the NBA. "The toughest part about losing guys is the idea of change, especially when you have to play the next night." said Dazzle Coach Kent Davison. "You haven't had the chance to have those combinations in the game together."

The Dazzle had three players reach double figures in scoring with Victor recording a double-double by grabbing 11 boards to go with his 25 points, Seth Doliboa added 20 points and Bryant Matthews chipped in with 13.

With the win the Flame climbs to 22-21 on the season and the loss drops the Dazzle to 24-21. The Flame will next head to Arkansas to face the RimRockers on Saturday night. The Dazzle will welcome the Tulsa 66ers to Roanoke for a pair of weekend games on Saturday and Sunday.
