Elmira Jackals News Release

Port Huron, MI - The Port Huron Flags leap-frogged over the Elmira Jackals in the Eastern Conference standings with a 5-2 win Sunday afternoon at McMorran Place Arena.

Rookie goaltender Zach Sikich received his first start with the Jackals since coming to Elmira in the 5-player trade with Quad City on Tuesday. But it was the Flags who got on the board first in this game. Mark Cadotte collected a rebound following a Sikich save and fired the puck into the Elmira net at 13:38, assisted by Kris Vernarsky and Jeremy Tucker. Elmira had a great opportunity to tie the game when David Hymovitz was sent free in the slot, but Flags goaltender Dustin Traylen made a sprawling glove save, robbing Hymovitz of the goal.

In the second period, new Jackals forward Andrew Leach tied the game at one as he scored his first goal in an Elmira uniform, assisted by Glenn Detulleo at 4:30. Port Huron retook the lead when Greg Bullock redirected a shot from Scott Wray past Sikich at 6:29. But the Jackals got a late goal from David Hymovitz to tie the game 2-2 going into the 2nd intermission. Hymovitz snapped a wrist shot past Traylen at 19:59, with just 0.6 seconds left on the clock, assisted by David Morelli; it was Hymovitz's first goal of the season.

Former Jackals left wing Scott Wray wasted little time putting the Flags back in front as he scored at 1:07 of the third period, assisted by Greg Bullock and Ben Gustavson. Port Huron doubled their lead with a power play goal at 3:32 when Colt King knocked in a rebound, making it 4-2 Flags. The Flags added a Mark Cadotte empty net goal at 19:44 to seal the 5-2 victory.

Dustin Traylen earned the win in goal for Port Huron as he made 23 saves on 25 shots. Jackals goaltender Zach Sikich stopped 29-of-33 shots as the Jackals fell to 25-35-1 on the season. Port Huron was 1-for-6 on the power play, while Elmira finished 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

The Jackals will continue their road trip on Wednesday March 7, as they face off with the Flint Generals at 7:15 pm at Perani's Arena. Elmira's next home game comes on Friday March 16th as they host the Muskegon Fury for a 7:35 pm face off at First Arena.
