Port Huron Flags News Release

(PORT HURON, MICH.) - In a critical division match-up, the Port Huron Flags turned away the Elmira Jackals with two goals in the third period, as 2,332 fans watched at McMorran Arena on Sunday evening.

Mark Cadotte set things off in the initial frame when he picked up a rebound and fired it past Zach Sikich at 13:38. With assists going to Kris Vernarsky and Jeremy Tucker, the lamp-lighter gave the Flags the lead at the end of the first, as the home team outshot the visitors, 9 to 5.

At 4:30 in the middle session, Andrew Leach took a pass from Glenn Detulleo and beat Dustin Traylen at the net to tie the game. Frank Littlejohn later received the second assist. Less than two minutes after the Jackals scored, Greg Bullock sent Port Huron ahead again when his shot, taken from a Scott Wray toss, trickled past Sikich and into the net. Ben Gustavson was credited with the second assist. It looked as though the Flags would head to the locker room with the lead once more, but with under a second left on the clock, the Jackals answered back. At 19:59, David Hymovitz bounced the puck off Traylen's pads and into the net, in a bizarre series of events. David Morelli assisted as the second period ended on an even score, despite the Flags' 12 shots on goal besting the Jackals' eight.

Port Huron blew the door open in the third with consecutive markers in the first four minutes. Wray bolstered his stats against his former team, with the third Flags goal of the night at 1:20, coming off assists from Bullock and Gustavson. Colt King then capitalized on a power play at 3:32, dishing in his seventeenth tally of the season. Bullock and Wray picked up the assists. With 15 seconds left on the clock, Cadotte closed the door on the Jackals with a shorthanded empty-netter, after snagging a pass from Craig Mahon. Traylen blocked 23 of 25 shots in the win for the home squad, while Sikich went 29 for 33 in the loss.

Wray, Bullock and Gustavson were named AT&T's first, second and third stars of the game, respectively. After a three-game road circuit next weekend, the Flags return to McMorran on Wednesday, March 14, to host the Muskegon Fury at 7 p.m.
