Five-Run Ninth Delivers Generals Win over Smokies

KODAK, TENN. (APRIL 18, 2014) - The Jackson Generals (9-6) wrapped up their series with the Tennessee Smokies (7-8) with their third comeback win this week, a 5-2 win Friday at Smokies Park. The Generals went 3-2 in the five-game series, marking their third-consecutive series win of 2014.

Jackson was held scoreless prior to a five-run, ninth inning rally. Kevin Rivers (1-4, 2 RBI) hit an RBI double to score Ketel Marte (1-3, R, BB) and Jabari Blash (1-4, 2 BB).

John Hicks (1-4, RBI, R) added a double to score Ramon Morla (0-4, R) with one-out. Leon Landry (1-4, 2 RBI) capped off the inning with an RBI single that scored Mickey Wiswall (2-4, R) and John Hicks (1-4, RBI, R).

RHP Mayckol Guaipe (1-0) earned his first victory in two innings of relief for Jackson. Guaipe allowed three hits and recorded four strikeouts on 35 total pitches.

RHP Cam Hobson (1-2) started strong, holding Tennessee hitless until the fifth inning. Hobson allowed three hits, two runs and two walks in 5.2 innings of work to earn a no decision.

Tennessee scored its first run after John Andreoli stole home on a pickoff to first base. The Smokies added another run in the sixth off a solo homer by Kris Bryant (4).

The Generals return to the Ballpark at Jackson on Saturday to kickoff a homestand against the Chattanooga Lookouts. RHP Moises Hernandez (0-0, 9.00) will face right-hander Carlos Frias (1-1, 2.89 ERA).

The Ballpark at Jackson will hold a Half-way to Halloween event, Educators Appreciation Night, a Beyond Blame Post-Game Concert and the second fireworks show of the season.
