Five Players Score as Ice Flyers Beat RiverKings 5-2

SOUTHAVEN, MS - T he Pensacola Ice Flyers traveled to Southaven, Mississippi for the first time this season to take on the Mississippi RiverKings. The Ice Flyers left the battle of two of the top teams in the SPHL with a 5-2 win.

The first period started as a tight affair with shots being few and far between. The Ice Flyers took the first lead on their sixth shot of the game when Adam Pawlick scored on a power play. Brett Lutes and John Dunbar assisted on the marker that came with 6:24 left in the first. The RiverKings tied the game with just over 2 minutes left in the first when Matt Whitehead scored.

The Ice Flyers got some more power play success when Steve Whitely put the puck past Mississippi's Matt Krahn. Shaun Arvai and Podge Turnbull got the helpers. Just over nine minutes into the second, Justin Alonzo fired a shot top shelf to push the lead to 3-1 for the Ice Flyers. Turnbull picked up the only assist on Alonzo's tally.

Mississippi's Whitehead struck again to cut Pensacola's lead down to 3-2 after 7:25 had rolled off the clock in the third. Less than four minutes later, Ryan Salvis put the Ice Flyers up 4-2. Lutes and Arvai assisted on the goal. Then, exactly two minutes after Salvis' goal, Lutes scored to make it 5-2. Pawlick and Mike MacIntyre got the assists.

Ross MacKinnon stopped 22 of the RiverKings' 24 shots and pushed his record to 4-1-1.

The Ice Flyers return to the Hangar tomorrow night and take on the Mississippi Surge at 7:05 p.m.
