Five Former Steamwheelers See Action In Week Four

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Week 4 of the AFL on NBC proved to be a big one for former Quad City Steamwheelers, especially for three of them in Las Vegas.

In a 50-30 victory over the expansion New Orleans VooDoo, the Gladiators' WR/DB Dennison Robinson caught four passes for 20 yards and two touchdowns and added 2.5 tackles on defense.

Fullback/linebacker Frank Carter rushed for a touchdown and had a fumble recovery on defense to help the Gladiators to a victory.

On the losing side of things was offensive lineman/defensive lineman Jason Berger, who had a fumble recovery. In the Austin Wranglers 37-35 loss to the Colorado Crush, offensive lineman/defensive lineman Jamarr Ward had an assisted tackle.

Former Steamwheelers wide receiver/linebacker Chris Anthony and his New York Dragons fell to the Arizona Rattlers 53-41. In the loss, Anthony had three receptions for 38 yards and added a tackle on defense.

Detroit Fury and backup quarterback Billy Dicken had the weekend off as it was the teams' "bye" week.

Tonight, offensive lineman/defensive lineman Sean McNamara and the Los Angeles Avengers take on the Georgia Force at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. local time. Be sure to tune into the AFL on NBC every Sunday seen locally on KWQC-TV6.

The next three weekends games will kickoff at 11 a.m. (CDT) rather than the usual time of 2 p.m.

Several players have moved on to the NFL from the af2 including the ‘Wheelers standout defensive rush end in 2003, Asa Francis, who last month signed with the Buffalo Bills to play in NFL Europe this spring.
