Five Down, One to Go in the Texas Showdown

MESQUITE, Texas - Mesquite Outlaws win 11-4 against Dallas Sidekicks in Mesquite, Texas at the Mesquite Arena on Saturday, January 28th. Then, on Sunday, January 29th, Mesquite Outlaws win 5-4 in shootouts against Dallas Sidekicks in Allen, Texas at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center.

On Saturday, the Outlaws scored five minutes into the first quarter, with a powerplay goal for Luiz Morales, after a blue card was issued to Sidekicks for too many men on the field. Another goal for the Outlaws was scored by David Ortiz with an assist from Erik Macias. A third goal was scored by Sebastian Mendez with an assist from Pablo Da Silva, putting the Outlaws up 3-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Three minutes into the second quarter, Sidekicks scored with a goal from Gustavo Piedra. Another goal was scored for Sidekicks during a power play by Anthony Powell. A third goal for Sidekicks was scored by Esai Romero in the sixth minute. Outlaws countered 20 seconds with a goal from Ilya Dmitriakov. Erik Macias scored again for the Outlaws putting the score at 5-3. Ortiz scored a powerplay goal after Sidekicks player Esai Romero received a blue card for tripping. The half ending with Outlaws up 6-3.

Sebastian Mendez scored for the Outlaws in the first 30 seconds of the third quarter. Mendez scored again during a powerplay with an assist from Pablo Da Silva, after a blue card was issued to Rio Ramirez from the Sidekicks. Isaias Robles scored again for the Outlaws in the 10th minute, with an assist from Ilya Dmitriakov. The third quarter ended with the Outlaws up 9-3.

In the fourth quarter, Ortiz scored a hattrick for the Outlaws on another powerplay goal with an assist from Pablo Da Silva in the fifth minute. In the 12th minute, Axel Chakounte scored for the Outlaws, with the Outlaws up 11-3. With just a little under a minute left, Sidekicks scored with a goal from Jowayne Laidley with an extra attacker. The game ending 11-4 Outlaws.

David Ortiz and Sebastian Mendez scored hattricks for the Outlaws, being the top scorers of the night.

On Sunday, the first quarter was slow with no goals being scored by either team. In the second quarter, a powerplay goal was scored for the Outlaws by David Ortiz, after a blue and yellow card were issued to Ahmed Zaky for the Sidekicks in the first quarter for boarding and a major penal penalty. Axel Chakounte scored again for the Outlaws in the second minute of the second quarter putting the Outlaws up 2-0. Alberto Rodriguez scored for the Sidekicks a little less than eight minutes into the second quarter. Brenden Lee for the Outlaws with an assist from Sebastian Mendez in the ninth minute. Bradlee Baladez scored for the Sidekicks in the tenth minute, Sidekicks trailing by one at the half.

Lee scored again for the Outlaws in the 10th minute of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, one minute into play Felipe De Sousa scored on a powerplay after Chakounte was issued a blue card for tripping at the end of the third quarter. Anthony Powell scored another goal for the Sidekicks tying the game at 4-4, sending the game into overtime.

In the first round of overtime, no goals were scored, sending the overtime into shootouts. Outlaws winning 5-4.

Brenden Lee scored two goals for the Outlaws, being the top scorer of the night. The Outlaws are now 8-1-2, and Dallas Sidekicks are now 0-10-2.

The next game for the Outlaws is on Friday, February 3rd against San Diego Sockers at Pachanga Arena in San Diego, California. Kickoff for the game is at 9:35 pm CST.
