New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the Fisher Cats Foundation are closing in on $2 million in giving with recent donations to a trio of New Hampshire non-profit groups. Since 2006, the year of the Foundation's inception, the team and Foundation have now provided more than $1.87 million in monetary and in-kind donations to over 2,500 non-profit and charitable organizations.

The latest contributions in the organizations' year-round efforts provided support for The Friends of Bridges House in Concord, New Horizons for New Hampshire, and City Year New Hampshire.

"In addition to our annual college scholarship program and our ongoing support for the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, we continue to bolster organizations that provide valuable resources to our community," said Fisher Cats President Rick Brenner. "Our most recent contributions will allow these groups to continue their efforts to make our communities more attractive places to live, work, and visit."

The Foundation's donation to The Friends of Bridges House will go towards the organization's Capital Campaign. Formed in 2005, The Friends of Bridges House are performing an extensive renovation and modernization of Bridges House, originally built around 1836 and now the official home of New Hampshire governors for more than four decades. While the governor no longer lives in the actual house, the property is used for several state functions held by the first family and governor's office. The Capital Campaign will provide an attractive and functional setting for non-profit and community events and an educational resource where school children and visiting adults can take tours and learn about the history of the state of New Hampshire.

The Fisher Cats and Fisher Cats Foundation partnered with New Horizons of New Hampshire in a recent campaign utilizing the social networking website Facebook. In conjuction with WMUR, Rock 101 and The Morning Buzz, and WHEB, the Fisher Cats encouraged Facebook users to 'Like' the Fisher Cats official team page at www.facebook.com/nhfishercats 3X2wtnv5v6-7iM-1ZzGmNZtQwe8N2RtPU]. During the two-week promotion, more than 1,500 fans cast their virtual support of the Fisher Cats, resulting in a donation to support New Horizons, a Manchester-based soup kitchen, food pantry, and homeless shelter. New Horizons plans to use the money to increase its capacity to provide shelter for the homeless with the purchase of new beds.

The Foundation's donation to City Year New Hampshire continues a mission for both organizations to improve the lives of young people in New Hampshire. City Year unites young people across the state for a year of full-time service to provide them with the skills and opportunities to change the world. The contribution will help City Year corps members put their idealism to work by tutoring and mentoring school children, reclaiming public spaces, and organizing after-school programs both in New Hampshire and abroad.
