'Fish Taken Down by Revolution

Bridgeport Bluefish News Release


(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 25, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (24-33) gave up a season-high 20 runs and tied a season-high with 22 hits allowed as the home team suffered a second straight loss. Bridgeport was defeated by the York Revolution (30-27) by a score of 20-3 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday. The Bluefish are still one win shy of 1,000 in franchise history.

Every Revolution batter scored a run and picked up a hit. Scott Grimes finished with six RBI on the day and scored three times while Andres Perez produced a two-run shot and drove in four. Danny Gonzalez collected four hits, got on base five times and came to the plate three times. Travis Scott drove in three runners and scored three times. Brandon Haveman scored three times, had four hits and brought in two runs. James Shanks was the only starter who did not drive in a run. Liu Rodriguez scored four times for the winning team. Seven York players had multiple hit nights and six scored at least two runs.

Bridgeport's James Simmons extended his hit streak to eight consecutive games as he reached base twice along with Norberto Susini. Eddie Rogers and Elliott Ayala collected two hits on the evening while Luis Lopez drove in two runs with a double to left in the third. Prentice Redman got on base three times and Kennard Jones drove in the only other run on the night for the Bluefish.

Bluefish starter, Jonah Bayliss (1-4), suffered the loss as the righthander allowed seven runs on seven hits and two walks while fanning two. A combination of five relief pitchers completed the final seven innings and gave up thirteen runs on fifteen hits and five walks. The Bridgeport tandem struck out four York batters.

Revolution starter Chris Waters completed four innings and did not factor in the decision. Bridgeport produced three runs, seven hits, two walks and two strikeouts against Waters. Southpaw reliever, Wade Korpi (1-0) earned the victory as he delivered two scoreless frames in giving up two hits and a walk while striking out two. Three other relievers tossed shutout baseball in the final three innings. The other relievers gave up a hit and two walks while striking out three.

The Bluefish continue a three-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard against the York Revolution. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The gates open one hour before first pitch. Bridgeport will send lefthanded starter, Gilbert De La Vara (3-4, 4.28 ERA), to the hill against righthanded hurler Omar Javier (0-5, 5.95 ERA).
