(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 25, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of infielder Sergio Miranda. Miranda makes his way to the Park City during his sixth year of professional baseball. Before joining the Bluefish this season, the infielder spent time with Single-A Rome of the Atlanta Braves organization. In 25 games he batted .241 with eight runs scored and six RBI.

"Sergio adds depth to our infield," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "He's a young player with a great glove and discipline at the plate."

The 25-year-old was originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 13th round of the 2007 amateur draft. He made his professional debut later that year and has also spent time with the Milwaukee Brewers organization, reaching as high as the Double-A level with Huntsville in 2011. In 514 career minor league games, Miranda owns a .284 batting average with 97 extra-base hits, 225 runs scored, 212 RBI, and 36 stolen bases.

In a corresponding roster move, the Bluefish have released pitcher Joe Bateman.
