For the second straight season, the Reading Fightin Phils' FirstEnergy Stadium has found itself named to "Top 100 Stadium Experiences" list by Stadium Journey in its January 2015 publication. In the issue, correspondents from Stadium Journey voted FirstEnergy Stadium as the no. 91 destination in the world and as the top-ranked minor league baseball destination in all of Pennsylvania.
The ranking places America's Classic Ballpark ahead of iconic stadiums such as Madison Square Garden, the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill, and the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
"What better way for us to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of America's Classic Ballpark than with this prestigious honor from Stadium Journey - said Fightin Phils General Manager Scott Hunsicker. "For more than three generations, our ballpark has been a destination for affordable family fun. It's a great ballpark, and it is truly an honor to be recognized once again."
In its fourth straight season of presenting their 100 best stadium experiences, Stadium Journey representatives have reviewed over 2,050 venues around the globe. Ratings take into account food & beverage served at each stadium, the overall atmosphere, the neighborhood surrounding the venue, the fans, access, the overall return on investment, and an extras category.
Oriole Park at Camden Yards took the top spot this year, followed by the University of Minnesota-Duluth's Amsoil Arena at no. 2, and Daytona International Speedway at no. 3. A full listing of the top 100 experiences can be found here.
The honor is just one of the many the Fightins and their historic ballpark have received over the years. In 2013, FirstEnergy was named the third-best minor league ballpark in the United States by readers of USA TODAY Travel Media Group's 10Best.com "Best Minor League Ballpark" contest. In 2001, the ballpark was named Best Ballpark in the Minor Leagues by digitalballparks.com. Six years later, it became the first ballpark that never housed a Triple-A franchise in modern MiLB history to welcome 10 million fans through the gates.
Constructed in 1951, FirstEnergy Stadium is a throwback to a bygone era and sits as the oldest park in the Eastern League. Heading into its 65th season, America's Classic Ballpark has seen the likes of Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt, Ryne Sandberg, and Robin Roberts call the ballpark home.
Season tickets, mini-plans, and group tickets for the 2015 season at FirstEnergy Stadium are available by visiting Fightins.com, calling the Fightin Phils Ticket Office at 610-370-BALL, or by stopping by the Fightin Phils Ticket Office in person at FirstEnergy Stadium.
