Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Fans in Baseballtown have a lot to be proud about after Stadium Journey named FirstEnergy Stadium, home of the Reading Fightin Phils, the no. 59 stadium experience in North America in its January 2014 issue. On top of being honored as one of the Top 100 Stadium Experiences in sports, America's Classic Ballpark was also named the tenth-best experience of 168 venues in Minor League Baseball.
The ranking makes Baseballtown the top-ranked minor league baseball destination in all of Pennsylvania. Among sports venues in the state of Pennsylvania, FirstEnergy Stadium ranks third, only behind Pittsburgh's Heinz Field (no. 6) and PNC Park (no. 55).
Among Eastern League ballparks, FirstEnergy Stadium is tops while it sits as the second-best stadium in Double-A baseball.
Since releasing their first Top 100 Stadium Experiences list three years ago, Stadium Journey has reviewed more than 1,700 venues from around the world. Minnesota Duluth's Amsoil Arena took the top spot in 2014, followed by Daytona International Speedway at no. 2 and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish's Compton Family Ice Arena at no. 3. A full list of the rankings can be found at StadiumJourney.com.
The honor comes after FirstEnergy Stadium was voted the third-best minor league ballpark in the United States by readers of USA TODAY Travel Media Group's 10Best.com "Best Minor League Ballpark" contest this past summer. In 2001, the ballpark was also named Best Ballpark in the Minor Leagues by digitalballparks.com. Six years later, it became the first ballpark that never housed a Triple-A franchise in modern MiLB history to welcome 10 million fans through the turnstiles.
Constructed in 1951, FirstEnergy Stadium is a throwback to a bygone era and sits as the oldest park in the Eastern League. Over its 62-year history, legends like Mike Schmidt, Roger Maris, Ryne Sandberg, Robin Roberts, Greg Luzinski, and Cole Hamels have called America's Classic Ballpark home.
Season tickets, mini-plans, and group tickets for the 2014 season at FirstEnergy Stadium are available by visiting Fightins.com, calling the Fightin Phils Ticket Office at 610-370-BALL, or by visiting the Fightin Phils Ticket Office in person at FirstEnergy Stadium.
