Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - The Houston Astros promoted shortstop Alex Bregman, the second-overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, from Quad Cities to the JetHawks on Monday.

Bregman joins a club that is vying for a fourth-consecutive California League playoff berth. The JetHawks are currently just 0.5 games out of first place in the South Division second-half standings.

In 29 Midwest League games, Bregman was hitting .259 with five doubles, a home run and 13 RBI. He posted a .368 OBP, walking 17 times while only amassing 13 strikeouts.

The LSU-product becomes the first-ever first round pick to play for the JetHawks during his draft year in the franchise's history. Bregman made his professional debut on June 26, just 31 days ago.

Bregman led LSU to the College World Series this season and was named a Golden Spikes Award finalist. He hit .323 with 22 doubles, nine homers and 49 RBI while adding 38 stolen bases.

A native of Albuquerque, N.M., Bregman becomes the next name on a long list of Astros first-round draft picks to play for the JetHawks over the past four seasons including outfielder Derek Fisher (37th-overall, 2014), right-hander Mark Appel (first-overall, 2013), shortstop Carlos Correa (first-overall, 2012), right-hander Lance McCullers (41st-overall, 2012) and George Springer (11th-overall, 2011).

The JetHawks begin a three-game series tonight against South Division first-half champion Rancho Cucamonga at The Hangar. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
