Spokane Chiefs News Release
The Spokane Chiefs will open the first round of the playoffs on the road at Vancouver beginning on Friday, March 23rd. Game two will be played Saturday, March 24th. Spokane will host the Giants in games three and four on Tuesday, March 27th and Wednesday, March 28th.
Tickets for games three and four will go on sale at the Chiefs office and all TicketsWest outlets on Monday, March 19th at 9:00 a.m.
If necessary, the series returns to Vancouver on Friday, March 30th for game five. Game six could potentially be played in Spokane on Sunday, April 1st. The Giants will host game seven on Wednesday, April 4th.
The meeting will be the third time the two franchises have met in the playoffs with each team winning one series. The Chiefs defeated Vancouver in a six game second round affair on their way to the 2008 Memorial Cup Championship. The following year Spokane dropped a seven game playoff series that featured the final three games of the series going into overtime. Vancouver advanced to the Western Conference finals after winning the match-up between the previous two Memorial Cup Champions (Vancouver-2007, Spokane-2008). The two played the second longest game in WHL history in game five, a 3-2 Spokane win.
Vancouver has home ice advantage in the first round by virtue of finishing as the fourth seed in the Western Conference. Spokane is the fifth seed. This year, the Giants earned a 3-2 shootout victory on October 5th in Vancouver and skated to a 2-1 win on February 15th in Spokane.
