Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats are nearing the end of the 2009 regular season and the first of two final homestands is geared up to go this weekend when the RailCats and Winnipeg Goldeyes battle for the top spot in the Northern League at U. S. Steel Yard.

Thursday, August 13, will be a jam-packed night with deals for everyone around Northwest Indiana. The 'Cats will kick off the night with their final Money Giveaway presented by NIEMI Associates. However, this particular cash contest will differ from the previous ones. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive an envelope with money inside. But instead of just $2,000 being given away, an extra grand will be issued. So five lucky fans will receive $100 each, and one especially fortunate patron will get an envelope with $1,000 inside. Also, the RailCats will feature their first All-You-Can-Eat Buffet with a box seat ticket for $22. The ticket comes with a special wrist band good for unlimited hot dogs, burgers, soda, nachos, popcorn, pretzels, and peanuts at the park.

On top of those great promotions, it is also a Thirsty Thursday where fans 21 & older get $2 MGD and Miller Lite drafts, courtesy North Coast Distributing and X-Rock 103.9 FM. For more savings, anyone who attends the Lake County Fair can bring in their fair tickets for a Buy One, Get One Free ticket deal for that night at U. S. Steel Yard. And it's Valparaiso Community Night so residents with a valid ID get $2 off their tickets at the gate. Gates open at 6 p.m with a 7 p.m. first pitch.

Friday, August 14, the RailCats and Goldeyes battle on Methodist Hospital Night and Union Night where hospital employees and union workers from around Northwest Indiana will join the raucous Steel Yard crowds and enjoy a post-game fireworks show on Fireworks Friday, presented by First Midwest Bank and The Post-Tribune. Gates again open at 6 p.m.

Saturday, August 15, gates open at 5 p.m. when the first 1,000 kids (12 & under) receive a new leather baseball glove, courtesy of NIEMI Associates. The RailCats will welcome all faiths in the Northwest Indiana community to the park on All Faiths Night. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.

And the weekend rounds out on Sunday, August 16 with the presentation of a one-of-a-kind 2010 Northern League T-Shirt, given to the first 1,000 fans through the gates, courtesy of Salvi, Schostok, & Pritchard, P.C. The exclusive top features a Northern League logo on the front breast while the back sports a graphic of all eight Northern League team logos emblazoned across the Northern League symbol. Sunday also marks a special day for the RailCats beloved mascot, Rusty the RailCat, who will celebrate his 7th birthday at U. S. Steel Yard. Rusty has invited his mascot friends from across Chicagoland and families can join them for a discounted price. It's a Times Family Day where families can clip the coupon in Sunday's Times to enjoy four box seat tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas for just $36. Gates open at 1 p.m. as the four-game set closes out.

The RailCats will be at home for just seven more games following this homestand. Tickets are available from now to the end of the season and can be purchased by visiting the U. S. Steel Yard box office, by dialing 219.882.2255, or by logging on to www.railcatsbaseball.com.
