Schaumburg Flyers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, IL-Ruben Salazar broke up a scoreless game in the sixth inning with a two-run double to help the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks secure a 4-0 win over the Schaumburg Flyers at Alexian Field.

A leadoff walk in the first to Antoan Richardson got the action started for the Flyers. With one out, Richardson stole second and third base on consecutive pitches to put a runner in scoring position with just one out. After a walk to Victor Ferrante, Felix Jose grounded into a double play to end the inning.

All was quiet until the top of the sixth. RedHawks right fielder Mike Coles hit a single to lead off the inning. Zach Penprase hit into a fielder's choice with Coles being called out at second. Nic Jackson then hit a liner back to starting pitcher Carmen Pignatiello. A failed rundown resulted in runners now being at second and third with still only one out. With the infield drawn in, Salazar ripped a double down the left field line scoring Coles and Jackson to make the score 2-0. With Salazar at second base, Jeremiah Piepkorn hit a soft single to center field scoring Salazar giving the RedHawks a 3-0 lead.

The Flyers looked to answer in the bottom half of their inning. With two outs, Victor Ferrante got on with a two out error. Felix Jose was up next, and delivered a base hit to right field, giving the Flyers runners on the corners. Richard Mercado gave RedHawks starter Broc Coffman a long battle at the plate, but ended the inning with a strike out looking.

With reliever Jon Huizinga on for Pignatiello in the ninth, the RedHawks added some insurance with a two out base hit by Coles to drive in second baseman Carlo Cota to make the score 4-0.

RedHawks starter Broc Coffman pitched his second complete game shutout of the season, limiting the Flyers to just four hits, while walking four and striking out four. Coffman now stands at 9-5 on the season.

Pignatiello went 6.1 innings in the loss, giving up three earned runs on five hits, while striking out five. With the loss, it drops Pignatiello to 6-9 on the season.

The Flyers now stand at 34-44, holding the fifth spot in the division. The RedHawks are at 42-34 on the season, third in the Northern League.

The series continues tomorrow with LHP Ryan Gehring (1-0, 6.35) getting the start for the Flyers, with RHP Garry Bakker (5-5, 6.26) taking the hill for the RedHawks. First pitch is at 7:05.
