First Blizzard game of 2005 this Friday
January 6, 2005 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Alexandria Blizzard News Release
After a break of more than a week, the Minnesota Blizzard team gets back onto the ice later this week, to resume NAHL West Division action. The Blizzard will host the Bismarck Bobcats Friday, January 7, in a 7:00 p.m. start at the Runestone Center in Alexandria.
Last week, the Blizzard hosted the Helena Bighorns over the holiday break for three games. The Blizzard won two of the three games, 3-2 on December 26 and 7-3 one night later. The Blizzard offense was short-circuited on Thursday, December 30, as the Bighorns blanked Minnesota 3-0 at the Runestone Community Center.
First period goals by Cody Carson and Brandon Marino gave Helena a cushion for net-minder Chad Beiswenger, who recorded 25 saves in the shutout. An empty-net goal by Nate Rein with nine seconds left completed the scoring. Clay Nestor (Glenwood, Minnesota) performed well between the pipes for the Blizzard, making 34 saves, out of 36 shots.
As the second weekend of 2005 approaches, the Blizzard is stationed in second place in the NAHL West, three points behind the Fargo-Moorhead Jets.
