Great Lakes Loons News Release
Eleven regular season fireworks shows, 10 Family Fun in the SUNdays, nine giveaway nights and multiple entertainer appearances, including a visit from Jerry Mathers of Leave it to Beaver fame, highlight the promotional schedule for the second season of Great Lakes Loons Baseball.
"It is our goal to provide a unique entertainment experience for every one of our 70 regular season games, plus this year's All-Star Game and Home Run Derby," said Loons Assistant General Manager for Marketing and Promotions Chris Mundhenk. "After reviewing our promotional schedule from last season and hearing feedback from our fans, we have put together a promotional calendar that we hope will bring even more entertainment to Dow Diamond than we had last season."
This season, the Loons will offer 11 regular season Fireworks Nights, powered by Dow Corning, plus an additional show following the All-Star Game June 17. That's an increase of two shows from last year's schedule. Fans on Loons.com voted the Loons' fireworks shows as the best recurring promotion in 2007 at Dow Diamond.
Nine games in 2008 will feature giveaway items. F.P. Horak will offer a five-poster giveaway series on multiple dates throughout the season. On April 4, Farm Bureau Insurance presents a magnetic schedule giveaway. HealthPlus will distribute a Loons' baseball card set on June 3. On June 6, fans will receive a Loons' team photo compliments of Michigan Community Blood Centers. And on July 10, lucky fans will receive a Loons' hat presented by 4D.
MidMichigan Health will sponsor three Jersey-off-the-Back Nights featuring pink jerseys for Mother's Day and breast cancer awareness (May 3), Loons home jerseys (June 27) and retro jerseys (July 26).
Family Fun in the SUNdays will return this season. All Sunday games will start at 3:05pm, and after the game all kids are invited to stay and run the bases. Loons' players will conduct pre-game Youth Baseball Clinics prior to three Sunday games - May 4, June 1 and June 8. Both events are sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance.
Multiple entertainers are scheduled to appear at Dow Diamond again this year. Appearing at Dow Diamond for the first time will be Jerry Mathers, known best for his starring role in Leave it to Beaver, for '50s Night (July 24) and the highly-acclaimed Bucket Boys (August 29), who appear at Chicago Bulls games. Popular returning acts include mascots Birdzerk (June 5), Reggy (July 12) and the Zooperstars (August 31) and entertainers Amazing Christopher (June 13) and Tom Watt "The Buffett Man" on Parrothead Night (August 23).
Chemical Bank returns as the presenting sponsor of three nights that could make your wildest dreams a reality - Lucky Hotdog Night (June 7), $50,000 Grand Slam Night (July 11) and Raining Money Night (August 22). In addition, the H hotel presents Instant Vacation Night on August 7.
Other special event nights include 10 Saturday Nights Live concerts presented by Bud Light, three Faith Nights, two Super Splash Days presented by the Midland Community Center and two weekday morning School Kids Days presented by Holiday Inn with a special 10:35am starting time. Additional theme nights include College Night presented by SVSU, Pirate Night, Game Show Night, Polish Heritage Night, Salute to the Arts Night, Chamber Night presented by Michigan Works! and multiple specific regional community nights.
