ABOUT LAST GAME: Columbia squeaked past Augusta 2-1 in the series finale at SRP Park on Tuesday night.
- Matt Winaker and Quinn Brodey each launched a solo home run. Brodey's long ball in the eighth inning just stayed fair down the right-field line and broke a 1-1 tie.
- Runs were there for the taking, but the pitching was terrific. Both teams had the bases loaded twice with less than two outs and failed to score. Fireflies reliever Joshua Payne escaped both of Augusta's serious threats in the seventh and eighth frames (1.2 IP, 0 R, 2 K).
- Chris Viall made his 10th start of the year and recorded 10 strikeouts across five innings.
CRAZY RIDE: The Fireflies ultimately took three out of four games against the GreenJackets. The teams combined for 50 walks and hit by pitches compared to 70 total hits.
SLUGFEST - July 2, 2018: Columbia's offensive display was one for the books.
- 16 runs - tied the franchise record for a single game (previously 16 runs @ Lexington on July 19, 2017)
- Scott Manea, 6 RBIs - matches a franchise record for most RBIs in one game (previously Dash Winningham on May 29, 2017 vs. Augusta)
- Quinn Brodey, 1st-inning grand slam - the second grand slam of the season hit by a Firefly (Gio Alfonzo, May 5 vs. Lakewood)
- 6 total hit by pitches - Columbia and Augusta nearly matched a SAL record for one game (record is 7)
FIREWORKS: Quinn Brodey and Dionis Paulino have sparked Columbia offense recently. Both have homered twice over the previous four games. Paulino has seven hits during this span. Meanwhile, Brodey's home-run total has climbed to 10 and that's just three shy of matching the franchise record for long balls in a season.
WHAT'S AT STAKE: In just a three-year history, Columbia searches for its first win on the 4th of July. Today marks the second game at Spirit Communications Park on Independence Day. The first is currently the second-largest crowd in team history (9,228 fans on July 4, 2016).
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY FROM THE FIREFLIES!
