Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- Arenafootball2 (af2) Florida Firecats quarterback Chris Wallace is on the verge of becoming the leagues all-time passing yards leader. Wallace needs just 129 passing yards to take over the top spot, currently held by former Oklahoma City QB Craig Strickland who holds the record with 22,688 yards.

"I've been blessed to play a long time and still be able to produce," said Wallace. "A record like this means you've been playing a long time and that's a good thing. I love it and I just want to keep playing."

Through 94 career games, Wallace has thrown for 22,560 yards. He holds af2 career records for attempts (3,072) completions (1,837) and touchdowns (491). In 2006 he became the first quarterback to throw 100 touchdowns in a single season in any arena league. As part of the af2's tenth anniversary season he was voted the af2's eight best QB in league history earlier this year.

"It's only fitting that he holds these awards," commented coach Kevin Bouis. "It shows his longevity and how successful he's been in our league. It's a tremendous accomplishment."

Wallace began his af2 career with the Carolina Rhinos in 2000. He played for the AFL Orlando Predators in 2001 and 2003. Prior to joining the Firecats midway through the 2004 season, he played for the Norfolk Nighthawks and Cape Fear Wildcats.

The Firecats also made a pair of roster moves this week, placing kicker Gary Cismesia on re-callable reassignment and lineman Greg Hammond on team suspension. Cismesia kicked for Florida on March 28th against South Georgia connecting on three of five extra point tries. He missed his only field goal attempt from 38 yards. Hammond, acquired through a trade with Peoria, has yet to suit up for Florida. Recent family issues have kept him off of the field. The team anticipates making additional roster moves yet this week.

Florida travels to Albany, New York this week to take on the Albany Firebirds on Friday April 10th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm. Fans can listen to the game on Fox Sports 1200am. The Firecats return home to Germain Arena on April 18th to play the Kentucky Horsemen in a South Division match up.

2009 season tickets are on sale now with season-ticket packages starting as low as $108. Call 239-390-CATS (2287) to reserve your seats or visit the team online at www.FloridaFirecats.com.
