Amarillo Venom News Release
Amarillo, TX 4/8/09 - Linebacker and fullback Blair Boynton, a rookie with the Amarillo Dusters af2 team, is likely out for the season due to a knee injury, the team reported Wednesday.
Injured on a special teams play in the second quarter of last Saturday's loss against Arkansas, Boynton suffered what is reportedly a torn ACL. After nearly tackling the Twisters' return man in the end zone on kickoff coverage, the Arizona native slammed awkwardly into the wall underneath the upright and limped off the field. Boynton would return to play a handful of downs later in the quarter before sitting for the rest of the contest.
"Blair is a great player for us, and will be greatly missed in the starting lineup," said Dusters Head Coach Ben Bennett. "He has been a very quick learner this season on both sides of the ball."
Boynton will likely end the 2009 af2 season with two tackles-including one sack-and a forced fumble. He is expected to be placed on the team's injured reserve Wednesday evening.
To help alleviate the loss due to injury, the team is expected to welcome T.J. Nickleberry back into the lineup. Nickleberry played at Amarillo's Palo Duro Hugh School as a prep before suiting up for West Texas A & M during his collegiate career, and will likely be assigned by the af2 to Amarillo before Friday.
Meanwhile, the Dusters will be back in action next Saturday at Corpus Christi (0-2). The game, which starts at 7:05 PM, can be heard on 107.1 KPUR-FM in the Amarillo area, and watched via a free online videocast through af2TV (for more information, go to www.dustersfootball.com).
