Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- Florida Firecats Head Coach Kevin Bouis earned his 40th coaching victory in Florida's 55-44 win over the Alabama Steeldogs this past weekend. Bouis is the af2's 11th coach to earn 40 career wins, and one of only three to hit the mark in just their 3rd season at the helm.

"It feels pretty good to turn 40, when you're only 31," Kevin remarked.

Bouis, who has been the Firecats Head Coach since 2005, has a career record of 40-11 and is one of the youngest coaches in the league. His teams have finished the regular season 14-2 & 13-3 the last two years winning the South Division title and home field advantage in the playoffs each year.

Once again this season the Firecats defense ranks among the leagues elite. In a league known for offense the team has given up an average of 36.5 points per game, 2nd fewest in the af2. Additionally his team has allowed just 211.5 yards passing per game and ranks 2nd in total defense, 4th in rushing defense, 5th in the league in sacks and has a +21 turnover margin, 3rd best in the league.

Coach Bouis has been with the Firecats since 2002 serving as the Defensive Coordinator on two ArenaCup teams, winning it all in 2004. That year his defense was ranked #1 in total defense, #1 in pass defense, #3 in rush defense & #2 in scoring defense surrendering just 38.2 points per game.

The Florida Firecats will have some time to prepare for their final opponent of the regular season thanks to a bye week this weekend. The Firecats return to action in Manchester, New Hampshire Saturday July 28th against the Wolves.

Kickoff is set for 7:05 pm Saturday July 28th. Fans can listen to the game online at www.FloridaFirecats.com, www.NBC-2.com & www.ABC-7.com.

Florida will be looking for a win to keep their hopes of winning the South Division alive and along with it a chance to host a 1st round game at home. The Firecats also need some help from either Alabama or Tulsa against South Georgia. A South Georgia loss to either team and a Firecats win would clinch the division for the 4th straight year.

If the Firecats win the division they will host a 1st round game Saturday August 4th.
