January 30, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Albany/Indiana Firebirds News Release
INDIANAPOLIS â The Indiana Firebirds have finalized agreements with radio personalities for their 2004 season broadcasts and "Birds Blitz" coach's show. Rob Blackman, who served as the team's radio color commentator for the past two seasons, has been moved up to become the play-by-play announcer for all 16 Firebirds games, along with becoming the host of "Birds Blitz", the weekly coach's show of the Firebirds.
Blackman will be joined in the booth this season by former Colt and thirteen year veteran of the NFL, Barry Krauss. Krauss returns to the Firebirds and assumes the same role he held during the 2001 AFL season, serving as the team's color commentator for all radio broadcasts. A highly regarded motivational speaker, Krauss has been involved in broadcasting and business since his retirement from the NFL in 1991.
Blackman and Krauss can be heard for the first time next Saturday night, beginning at 6:30 PM, when the Firebirds host the Columbus (OH) Destroyers at Conseco Fieldhouse. Blackman will be starting the season off next Wednesday, February 4th, when he hosts the Firebirds' "Birds Blitz" coach's show, live from Daddy Jack's Restaurant and Bar between 6:00-7:00 PM. The show will be broadcast LIVE from Daddy Jack's (located at 9413 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis) each and every Wednesday throughout the season. The show will feature head coach Steve DeBerg, prize give-a-ways on location, call-in guests from the upcoming opponents, and much more.
The Firebirds also recently reached an agreement with ESPN 1300 AM (Terre Haute, IN) and ESPN 1130 AM (Brazil, IN) to remain as part of the Indiana Firebirds radio network though 2004. All Firebirds games, plus the weekly "Birds Blitz" coach's show, can be heard on the entire radio network. ESPN 950, the flagship of the Indiana Firebirds, along with their sister station WPZZ 95.9 FM "The Point", will continue to broadcast all games.
