Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA, FL -- The Tampa Bay Storm completed their final session of two-a-day practices on Friday afternoon as the team began to put the finishing touches on the final days of training camp.

The Storm will have one final training camp workout on Saturday when they hold an intrasquad scrimmage at 10:00 am at the St. Pete Times Forum.

"We've worked really hard during these two weeks of camp and I like what I've seen so far," said Storm head coach Tim Marcum. "The quarterbacks have progressed each day and they're starting to get into a rhythm with the receivers. I think we've found some players in the defensive secondary who can fill the shoes or Omarr Smith and Corey Sawyer, and I like our revamped pass rush."

The Storm have not suffered any major injuries during the course of training camp, but do enter the final weekend before the start of the regular season with various bumps and bruises. However, the Storm did place lineman Shawn King on injured reserve. Kind pulled a groin during the first week of training camp and has not practiced since.

David Saunders returned to light practice on Friday after sitting out most of the week after suffering a hip pointer in last weekend's scrimmage against Orlando.

ROSTER MOVES

The Storm began to pare down their training camp roster on Friday in an effort to get down to the maximum 24-man roster by Monday. Tampa Bay traded wide receiver/linebacker Gary Compton to the Philadelphia Soul in exchange for future considerations.

Compton played in five games for the Storm last season. While with the Storm Compton became just the third player in Arena Football history to surpass 10,000 receiving yards. He also eclipsed the 1,200 points scored plateau. In Philadelphia Compton is reunited with head coach Michael Trigg. Trigg coached Compton with numerous teams in the AFL, including the Ft. Worth Cavalry, Milwaukee Mustangs, and Grand Rapids Rampage.

In addition, the Storm placed lineman Jerome King on recallable waivers and waived lineman Tyronn Johnson and defensive specialist Hurley Tarver.

LIGHTNING TO HONOR STORM

The Tampa Bay Lightning will honor the World Champion Tampa Bay Storm during the contest against the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday night. The Storm will be recognized on the ice during the second intermission of the game. Additionally, members of the Storm will be signing autographs on the concourse of the arena during the first period of the game.

STORM SUPER BOWL PARTY

The Storm will host a Super Bowl party at Newks beginning at 4:00 pm on Sunday. Newks is located across the street from the St. Pete Times Forum. Players will be available to sign autographs during the event. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase season and individual game tickets for the 2004 Storm season.
