Flint, Mich. - The Flint Firebirds announced today the hiring of Goaltending Scout Luc Lobsinger ahead of the 2023-24 season.

"We are excited to be adding Luc," General Manager Dave McParlan said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience at the goaltending position, and will fit in well with our scouting staff."

Lobsinger comes in with decades of experience at the goaltending position. He was the goaltending coach for both the men's and women's hockey teams at Brock University (U-Sports) from 2015-20. Most recently, he operates his goaltending school, "Lobsinger Goaltending" out of Niagara, Ont.

"I've been down in the Niagara region forever," Lobsinger said. "I was the backup goalie during their (Niagara IceDogs) first season here. I started coaching right from there at Brock University with both the men's and women's programs. I will now get to help out on the draft side of things on my own time. I'll be scouting goaltenders all over Ontario, whether with video or through the big tournaments. Obviously, with (Goaltending Coach) Greg Stefan being in Michigan, he'll have a good handle on goalies south of the border."

Lobsinger brings years of OHL experience into Flint as well. He was a netminder for the Mississauga/Niagara IceDogs from 2005-08 playing 46 games in that time. He became the IceDogs goaltending coach during the 2014-15 season after a stint as Brock University's assistant coach for two years. He also was the Goaltending coach for Team Switzerland at the 2016 U18 World Championships.

"I obviously want to thank Rolf, Dave, and the entire hockey ops staff, including (scout) Fred Coccimiglio, for helping me get this opportunity," Lobsinger added. I'm looking forward to helping a team that has done a lot of things right these last couple of years. I remember seeing the Firebirds mentioned during the NHL draft and how it's a great place for guys to develop in the Ontario Hockey League."

Notable players coached by Lobsinger include 2023 Stanley Cup champion, Logan Thompson, and Flint Firebirds' netminder Nathan Day.

The Flint Firebirds are now less than two months away from the regular season! They return to action on Friday, September 29 at 7:07 p.m. against the Soo in the GFL Memorial Gardens and for the Home Opener against the Kitchener Rangers at 7:00 p.m.
