Chicago Fire FC News Release

CHICAGO, IL (July 31, 2009) - The Chicago Fire line up against Real Salt Lake tomorrow night, Saturday, August 1 (7:30 p.m. CT, My50 Chicago) for their first of two meetings in 2009. The Fire posted a 0-0-2 record through their two matches against Salt Lake last season including a 1-1 tie on the road in the season opener on March 29 and a 0-0 at home in TOYOTA PARK on July 19. The Fire have an all-time regular season record of 4-1-3 against Salt Lake, dropping just one contest on June 3rd 2006 on the road at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Fire will look to continue their undefeated streak against Salt Lake at home as the team has a home record of 2-0-2 against the club from Utah.

The Fire have an edge on Salt Lake in scoring, posting 12 goals through regular season competition compared to Salt Lake's six all-time. The Fire have allowed only two goals in their four games against Salt Lake when playing in Chicago and have posted two shutouts. The Fire have never allowed more than one goal per game against Salt Lake at home.

With their tie Saturday against the Seattle Sounders FC, the Chicago Fire (7-3-8, 29 pts.) collected a point on the road but dropped to second place in the Eastern Conference standings, sitting just one point behind the Columbus Crew. The team played through the month of July without two important contributors - Gonzalo Segares and Logan Pause - who were serving with their respective national teams. Despite their absence, the Fire completed an undefeated July - going 2-0-2 in four games played. The team is currently on a four game undefeated streak and will look to continue a three game shutout streak tomorrow night as both Pause and Segares have returned to the squad and will be available for selection against Salt Lake.

*** The Chicago Fire Communications office will no longer be distributing paper copies of game notes on game day. With the ease and availability of accessing game notes on our website, we have decided to reduce the roughly 1,000 pages of paper we use for game notes at each match and go 100% electronic. This is all part of an ongoing effort by the Fire to go green at every level of the organization.
