Sporting Kansas City News Release
(July 31, 2009) - The Kansas City Wizards (5-6-6, 21 pts) travel to face FC Dallas (4-9-5, 17 pts) Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. CT on Metro Sports (English) and Time Warner Cable Channel 5 (Spanish). The Wizards are undefeated in their last three road MLS matches, including a 2-0 win at Real Salt Lake, a 1-1 tie at Los Angeles and a 0-0 tie at New England. The Wizards tied their last game, a 1-1 result against the Los Angeles Galaxy on the strength of Claudio Lopez's 56-yard goal and an outstanding effort from goalkeeper Kevin Hartman.
Kansas City will regain the services of midfielder/forward Davy Arnaud after he spent the month of July with the U.S. National Team. Arnaud played in five of six games during the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the United States, scoring one goal and adding one assist. Arnaud started the last four games for Bob Bradley's side including the semifinal and championship match. Arnaud took part in the MLS All-Star game Wednesday, coming on in the 63rd minute against Everton FC of the English Premier League. Arnaud nearly gave the MLS All-Stars a win in second-half stoppage time, powering a header on goal that Everton and USA goalkeeper Tim Howard did well to save.
FC Dallas will be without striker Kenny Cooper after agreeing Friday to transfer the U.S. international to TSV 1860 Munich of the 2.Bundesliga. Cooper, 24, scored 40 goals with 10 assists in 90 games for FC Dallas from 2006-2009. He is among the MLS League-leaders with seven goals in 15 games this season. He scored two goals for the United States during the Gold Cup.
Kansas City enters the match with the fewest goals allowed in the Eastern Conference (19). Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman and the Wizards defense have posted five shutouts this season after recording 10 clean sheets in 2008. Hartman is the League's all-time leader in career shutouts with 82. The Wizards will host a watch party for Saturday night's game locally at Fox and Hound in Overland Park sponsored by Budweiser.
