MLS Disciplinary Committee Announces Rulings for Real Salt Lake's Jason Kreis and Seattle's Freddie

July 31, 2009 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (July 31, 2009) - The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee today fined Real Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis $3,000 and suspended him one game for his actions that led to his dismissal in Real Salt Lake's game versus FC Dallas on July 24.

Kreis was dismissed from the game in the 73rd minute for his verbal confrontation with the officiating crew. The fine and suspension are in addition to the $500 fine and one-game suspension Kreis received automatically for the dismissal, bringing the total to two games and $3,500. Kreis will serve the two-game suspension when Real Salt Lake travel to face the Chicago Fire on Aug. 1 and host Seattle Sounders FC on Aug. 8.

The MLS Disciplinary Committee has also fined Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Freddie Ljungberg $500 for failure to leave the field in a timely and orderly manner after he was issued a red card in the 59th minute of Seattle's match versus the Chicago Fire on Saturday, July 25.

As one of the League's official Charities of Choice, the US Soccer Foundation is the recipient of all player fines at the end of each season. Those fines are added to the Foundation's Annual Grants Pool from which the Board of Directors awards grants to soccer clubs and organizations that serve economically disadvantaged children in urban areas.
