Fire Goalkeeper Sean Johnson Named to U.S. Roster for FIFA World Cup Qualifying

CHICAGO, Ill. (Saturday, October 12, 2013) - The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Saturday that goalkeeper Sean Johnson has been selected by United States Men's National Team Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann to join the U.S. for the final 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match on Oct. 15 against Panama at Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City, Panama at 8:00 p.m. CT (beIN SPORT).

Johnson will report for international duty on Sunday, Oct. 13 following the Fire's Oct. 12 road match against FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas at 7:30 p.m. CT (My50/TWCSC Wisconsin/La Ley 107.9). Johnson will not miss any of the Fire's matches while on international duty.

A Lilburn, Ga. product, Johnson made his international debut Jan. 22, 2011 against Chile at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Johnson earned his first start for the U.S. Men's National Team and earned the shutout in a 0-0 draw with Canada at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas Jan. 29. The 24-year-old 'keeper has been capped four times.

Johnson most recently competed in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, earning the shutout in the 1-0 win against Costa Rica on July 16 in the final group match of the tournament. The U.S. would go on to defeat Panama 1-0 in the final, winning the Gold Cup for the fifth time.

Now in his fourth year as a professional, Johnson has earned five shutouts in 25 matches for the Fire this season while tallying a 10-9-6 record.

The U.S. qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil with a 2-0 victory against Mexico on Sept. 10 at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
