Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux Falls Stampede announced today that defenseman, Joe Finley has committed to the University of North Dakota for the upcoming 2005-06 season.

An Edina, MN native, Finley appeared in 55 games last year, registering 13 points (3g, 10a) and led the team in penalty minutes with 181. NHL Central Scouting ranked Finley #33 overall of North American skaters for the upcoming 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Finley becomes the 13th Stampede player to commit to a Division I school this year and the third player in the last month to receive a scholarship from a prominent Division I program. He will skate with former Stampede forward, TJ Oshie, who committed to North Dakota in May.

"We are very happy for Joe," stated Stampede GM/Head Coach, Kevin Hartzell. "He feels ready to enter college and to be able to get an opportunity at a great program like North Dakota, is outstanding. This is another success story for the Sioux Falls Stampede and the USHL."

The Fighting Sioux are members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and were runners-up in the 2005 Frozen Four, falling to Denver University in the championship game. The Sioux own seven NCAA championships and have several famous NHL alumni including, Ed Belfour (Toronto), Jason Blake (NY Islanders), Jon Casey (MN North Stars), and Zach Parise (New Jersey).
