Final Home Game Preview / Albany Trip Recap

March 11, 2006 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Rockford Lightning News Release

The Rockford Lightning split a two game series with the Albany Patroons over the last couple of days with a 119-116 win on Thursday, and a 108-120 loss on Friday at the Washington Avenue Armory.

Ronnie Fields led the Lightning on Thursday with 28 points as Rockford went on to take 5.0-quarter points in the win. The team shot 56.8 % from the field and 83.9% from the free throw line in the first of the two game series.

Friday night was a different story in Albany. The Lightning shot just 43.9% from the field and 61.8% from the charity stripe in the loss to the Patroons. Cordell Henry led the team with his second consecutive 26 point performance. Rockford managed just 1.0-quarter points and severely hurt their chances of two home games in the first round of the CBA playoffs.

The Gary Steelheads need just 1.5-quarter points to clinch the top spot in the Eastern Conference over the Lightning, while the Yakama Sun Kings need 3.5 to clinch the top second place seed for the playoffs. Gary takes on the Michigan Mayhem on their home court Saturday night while Yakama plays host to the Western Conference leading Sioux Falls Skyforce on Sunday. The Lightning can still manage one of the top spots in the playoffs but it will take a strong performance on Sunday against the Dakota Wizards and a little help from Michigan and Sioux Falls.

The Lightning will be playing their final regular season home game of the 2005-2006 season, and quite possibly the Lightning's history in Rockford on Sunday at the MetroCentre. Tip off is set for 3:05 P.M. (CST) with the doors opening at 2:00 P.M. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a six-pack cooler courtesy of PEPSI and Hot 105.9. Quick Change, Rockford's favorite halftime show, will be returning to perform for Lightning fans Sunday afternoon. The Rockford YMCA cheerleaders will also perform their routine at halftime of the Lightning game.

Rockford Assistant Coach David Stockton, who is also a history teacher at Jefferson High School in Rockford is giving a ticket to every student at his school to come out and celebrate with the Lightning on Sunday. There are also a few other large groups that will be joining the Lightning for the final regular season game including the Belvidere Park District, and the Belvidere YMCA. The Lightning are looking to pack the house for the game so come on out and help support the longest-tenured minor league basketball franchise in North America in their 20th anniversary season. Group tickets can be purchased at a discounted price through the Lightning offices at 815-874-4232. For single game tickets, contact the MetroCentre box office at 815-968-5222 or online at www.centreevents.com.
