October 26, 2023 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Erie Otters News Release

Barrie, Ontario - A short turnaround for the Erie Otters after a three-in-three the previous weekend would see the team embark on another three game weekend, this time in a road-road-home format. The first game of the road trip would take Erie up to Barrie for its only away meeting with the Colts in the 2023-24 season. Taking on a streaky-at-best Barrie team, Erie would hope to bounce back from a two-game skid to close last weekend out. With captain Spencer Sova out of the lineup for Erie, the team would see its young defensive corps. put to the test of stepping up.

An early penalty on Bruce McDonald for goaltender interference was the most action that either team would see through the early parts of the first period, as the Colts and Otters would play a relatively pedestrian opening to the game's action. When offensive opportunities did present themselves, the goaltenders of either side were ready and willing for the challenge, with both netminders making 10 saves in the first. It would be the Erie Otters - and the aforementioned McDonald (3) - who would lead the game through 20 minutes of play, as the Otters would convert on their lone power play of the period. Erie would lead in shots 11-10, and on the scoresheet 1-0.

The second period would, in many ways, feel like a redo of the first frame. Should would once again be kept low, as Barrie would outshoot Erie 10-7, but this time around it would be the Colts who would claim the lone goal of the frame. Barrie would be rewarded with their own man-advantage to score on in the second, and Cole Beaudoin (5) would not waste his opportunity with a shot from the right-wing hashmarks. The power play goal would make it a 1-1 game, and Erie would be unable to convert on their second power play of the night. After 40 minutes, Erie and Barrie would be knotted in a 1-1 game, with the latter outshooting the former 20-18.

Erie would finally start to play its brand of hockey in the third period, and the offense would come through immediately. In a span of 60 seconds, Erie would go from a 1-1 game to a 3-1 lead thanks to the 100th career OHL point from Pano Fimis (5) on the power play and Carey Terrance (6) with the game's only five-on-five goal. Late in the final period, Barrie would make it a game once again as Beau Akey (3) would score on the power play, but Carey Terrance (7) would net his third point of the night in the empty net to give Erie a 4-2 road victory in Barrie. Erie would outshoot the Colts 29-23, 11-3 in the final frame.

The second-straight three-in-three weekend continues on Friday evening for the Otters first meeting of the season against Midwest Division foe Kitchener at The Aud. Erie will then make a return trip to the Erie Insurance Arena in preparation for an October finale against the defending champion Peterborough Petes in the teams only trip to Erie of the season.
