Fightins Win on Independence Day

(Manchester, NH) - The Reading Fightin Phils (38-46) carried over their series win over Hartford from Tuesday night to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (48-35) as they won 5-3. Reading is now 12-6 in their last 18 games played.

The Fisher Cats jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Fightins in the bottom of the first inning. Connor Panas hit as first RBI triple off Tyler Viza to score Jon Berti for the first run of the game. Panas and Harold Ramirez then scored on two errors committed by the Fightins. Reading answered back with two runs against Fisher Cats starting pitcher Justin Dillon to cut the lead to 3-2. Jan Hernandez hit a RBI single and Deivi Grullon added a sacrifice fly.

Viza allowed three runs (one earned) in three innings while giving up just one hit and walk while striking out five batters. Alexis Rivero (3-1) entered the game in the bottom of the fourth inning to pitch in relief of Viza. Rivero pitched four shutout innings while striking out three batters. The Fightins tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh inning against Zach Jackson (2-2) as Grullon added another sacrifice fly.

Reading added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning to extend their lead 5-3. Jackson left the game after issuing a one-out walk to Cornelius Randolph. Dusty Isaacs entered the game and issued a walk to Austin Listi. Two consecutive wild pitches gave the Fightins a 4-3 lead. Zach Green hit a RBI single to extend the lead for Reading.

Edgar Garcia pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn his sixth save of the season.
