Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

After three games in which they compiled a 2-1-0 record, despite scoring only one goal in each of those contests, the Dubuque Fighting Saints (11-4-2) complete their four game homestand on Friday night against Muskegon and Saturday evening against the Green Bay Gamblers. The Fighting Saints remain in control of the Western Conference, leading second place team Sioux Falls by three points in the conference standings. Both game start at 7 PM, and the gates to the Mystique Community Ice Center open at 6 PM.

The Lumberjacks have made the trek to Dubuque once before, losing to the Saints in a 4-1 game on November 13th. Shane Sooth tallied four points for the Fighting Saints, and Matt Morris stopped 17 of the 18 shots that he faced to lead the Fighting Saints to victory. The Saints travelled to Muskegon the following Friday, falling behind to the Lumberjacks 3-0 in period one, but ultimately tying the game and losing in a shootout.

The Lumberjacks have established themselves in the middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference, improving their record to 7-7-4 after getting off to a slow start. After defeating Dubuque in Muskegon, the Lumberjacks are winless over their last three games, losing in overtime to Cedar Rapids and dropping games to Des Moines and Youngstown. The Lumberjacks are second in scoring in the USHL behind Cedar Rapids.

Like Muskegon, the Green Bay Gamblers have made a prior visit to the Mystique Community Ice Center, losing 6-0 in Matt Morris' first shutout of the year. John Gaudreau had two goals and added an assist to help the offense along in the victory.

Since the Gamblers' loss to the Fighting Saints, Green Bay has yet to lose a game in regulation. The Gamblers lost a decision in overtime to the Sioux City Musketeers the following evening, and since that point they have ripped off seven consecutive victories to put themselves in first place in the Eastern Conference of the USHL. They have moved into first place by virtue of their goaltending and defense, ranking only in a tie for tenth in the league in scoring, but first overall in goals against.
