Fighting Saints Grab Two All-Academic Members

Dubuque, IA - The Fighting Saints are proud to announce that defenseman Lucas St. Louis and forward Noah Powell were both named to the USHL All-Academic team, with St. Louis also winning the 2023 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
"We are impressed by the work Noah and Lucas Demonstrated on the ice and in the classroom and congratulate them both on this recognition," said General Manager and President of Hockey Operations Kalle Larsson. "Our academic coordinator, JoAnne Gibson, continues to do a tremendous job assisting our players with everything related to academics."
Academics have long been a success in Dubuque under Gibson who has been with the team since 2010. Since the USHL began the All-Academic Team in 2016-17, the Fighting Saints have grabbed 15 of the 40 (37.5%) total academic team nominations, including having multiple players make the academic team for six consecutive years. No other team in the USHL has accomplished that feat once.
"In Dubuque, we take academics very serious," said Larsson of St. Louis' individual award. "Providing a top notch academic support system for our players is a priority and a core value of the organization. Lucas' academic track record speaks for itself. Just like on the ice, his focus and dedication to learn and improve is impressive. We are proud of him being named the USHL Scholar-Athlete of the Year."
St. Louis becomes the fourth Fighting Saints to take home Scholar-Athlete of the Year over the last six seasons joining Connor Kurth (2020-21), Mason McCormick (2018-19), and Alex Steeves (2017-18). He is committed to Harvard University, and Powell is committed to Ohio State University.
