Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Dubuque Fighting Saints have acquired forward Davis Burnside and a 2022 Phase I 9th round draft pick from the Des Moines Buccaneers in exchange for forward Gabriel Lundberg, a 2022 Phase I 7th round draft pick and a 2023 Phase II 3rd round draft pick. Burnside, 18, brings 114 games of USHL experience to the club, and a knack for offensive production.
Burnside joins the Fighting Saints with the second-most points among current Buccaneers players with 31 (12 goals, 19 assists). In his 114 games in the USHL, he has scored 45 points (20 goals, 25 assists). He also joins the Saints on a hot streak, with three goals and six assists in his last ten games.
"Davis is a player we know well going all the way back to youth hockey. He's got speed, drive, and the ability to produce," said Fighting Saints President of Hockey Ops and GM Kalle Larsson. "We feel he adds great scoring depth to our group of forwards, and we are thrilled to add him to our team."
The Ohio State commit was signed to a tender agreement, which held the place of the Tri-City Storm's Phase I first round pick in the 2019 USHL Draft. He starred with the perennial powerhouse Chicago Mission program, where he won HPHL championships in his 13U and 15U seasons. He was acquired by Des Moines in a big trade of assets on January 8, 2021.
Along with the acquisition of Jackson Hallum, Burnside adds even more scoring depth to a team that has already scored the third-most goals in the league (168), and the second-most on average (4.10 goals per game). Burnside saw routine rotation on Des Moines' power play this season. 5 of his 12 goals have come on the man advantage, and 6 of his 19 assists have as well.
"Gabe Lundberg is a super teammate and a good player. He'll be missed in Dubuque, and we thank him for his time as a Saint," Larsson added.
The Fighting Saints are in action tonight as they take on the Waterloo Black Hawks at Young Arena.
