Fighting Falcons Fall Twice in Janesville
February 10, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, dropped a pair of games during a weekend series on the road against the Janesville Jets. Port Huron lost 3-2 on Friday before falling 4-3 in a long shootout Saturday night.
ÃâÃÂ
Taylor Fernandez and Logan Lambdin scored Port Huron's goals Friday, but Janesville managed to cash in on three of their five power play opportunities to earn the win. The Fighting Falcons held a 2-1 lead at the midway point of the third period before a pair of Robin Hoglund goals just 41 seconds apart gave the Jets their first win of the season over the first-place Fighting Falcons.
ÃâÃÂ
Max Milosek took the loss Friday, stopping 22 of 25 Janesville shots.
ÃâÃÂ
Port Huron twice saw two-goal leads vanish Saturday, as their 3-1 lead midway through the second period turned into a tie game. Vito Aluia, Matt Seidel and Austin Romzek scored for the Fighting Falcons. Both teams were held scoreless during overtime, and it took 11 shooters per team in the shootout before Janesville got a game winner.
ÃâÃÂ
Alex Blankenburg suffered his first shootout loss of the season Saturday, stopping 26 shots during the game before turning away nine of 11 shootout attempts.
ÃâÃÂ
Brock Kautz earned the sweep in net for Janesville, with 66 saves on 71 Fighting Falcons shots, as well as 10 shootout saves Saturday night.
ÃâÃÂ
With the losses, Port Huron's lead in the North Division standings has dropped to just two points, as the Michigan Warriors swept the Soo Eagles over the weekend. The Warriors have won eight consecutive games, and have gotten off to an 8-1-0 record in 2014. Port Huron has lost three games in a row, and seen their division lead shrink as they've gone just 5-6-1 since the start of the New Year.
ÃâÃÂ
The Fighting Falcons return to home ice this weekend when they host the Springfield Jr. Blues Friday, February 14 and Saturday February 15 at 7 p.m. The Jr. Blues head to Port Huron on a three-game losing skid of their own, scoring just two goals in their last three games.
ÃâÃÂ
Rather than hold a Jackpot Friday drawing Friday night, the team will donate $1 per person in attendance to the Nichols family in the wake of the passing of goalie coach Scott Nichols. The team will also hold a raffle throughout the weekend, with all proceeds benefiting the Nichols family. Proceeds from every 50/50 drawing throughout the rest of the season will go to the family as well.
ÃâÃÂ
The Fighting Falcons will bring in 4-time Stanley Cup champion Tomas Holmstrom to sign autographs from 6-8 p.m. during Saturday's game. A cocktail party for season ticket holders and sponsors will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. To R.S.V.P. for the cocktail party, call the front office at (810) 966-3800. All five VIP suites for Saturday's game have already sold out.
ÃâÃÂ
Tickets to any Fighting Falcons home game are available at the McMorran Arena Box Office, starting at just $7 for seniors, students and military. For more information, call the team's front office at (810) 966-3800.
