Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI -- The Fighting Falcons hosted the Czech Republic's U-18 National Team Saturday night at Port Huron's McMorran Arena, falling 7-3 in the exhibition matchup.
Eric Soderlund, Jimmie Perkins and Logan Lemirande lit the lamp for Port Huron. Though the game does not count towards NAHL standings or statistics, Louis Educate continued his hot streak with two assists and has scored a point in every game he's played with the Fighting Falcons.
"This game was a great opportunity for our players and fans to see some of Europe's most talented players," said Coach Ernie Hicke. "It was a very fast, very physical matchup."
The physical play from both teams led to two fights in the second period, but the moment that received the biggest applause from the crowd was the post-game handshake between the teams. Players from both teams shook the hands of opposing coaches in a sign of respect after a hard fought game.
The Fighting Falcons return to action next weekend when they host the Michigan Warriors Friday and Saturday night at McMorran Arena. This is the first trip to Port Huron for the Warriors. Flint and Port Huron enjoyed a healthy rivalry when the cities hosted professional teams, and after Friday's shootout battle, the new teams look to continue the tradition.
The Czech team will travel to Flint for a matinee matchup with the Warriors tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Perani Arena. They look to avenge Thursday's loss when they get a rematch with the Motor City Metal Jackets Tuesday in Trenton, Michigan.
