The Tornado started strong again, scoring just 1:17 into the period as J.D. Howard got loose and smashed a puck from the high slot past âRays goaltender Marco Wieser. Tyler Rostenkowski and Jackson Leef assisted. Eight minutes on the power play Howard would strike again off a beautiful pass from Nate Sliwinski to make it 2-0 Tornado. The Tornado weren't done in the 1st period as Ralfs Freibergs was the recipient of a great pass from Michael Zagari on a 2 on 1 and pushed one past Wieser for a 3-0 Tornado lead after the 1st period.

Ralfs Freibergs and Kyle Hughes fought and got game misconducts. IceRays player Brandon Marshall left his bench to get involved in the scrum and Axel Boyer and Mike Benedict both fought. Getting lost in all the fighting was the fact the Tornado and goaltender Jake Stafford were able to kill of four âRays power plays in the period, as the âRays fired 13 shots on goal, which were all turned away.
Despite the four-goal lead, the Tornado weren't done scoring in the 3rd period. Alec Theida scored from the point on a slapshot to make it 5-0. Then, Leef was the recipient of a great individual play by Taylor Herndon behind the net as he eluded three âRays players to slide the puck in front to Leef who one-timed a shot home for ultimately the 7-0 win. The Tornado dominated the scoreboard and the shots, outshooting Corpus Christi by a wide 45-26 margin.
