Fighting Falcons Add Eight in NAHL Draft

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, added eight players in Tuesday's NAHL Draft. The team selected four forwards and four defensemen as they continue to build for the 2013-14 season.
Just before the start of the draft, the team traded their first round selection to the Aberdeen Wings in exchange for an extra second and third round pick.
Port Huron's first selection came at 32nd overall in the second round, when Bo Brauer, a forward coming off a Minnesota state championship with the Edina HS Hornets became the first Fighting Falcons pick of the day.
With the 40th pick, the Fighting Falcons selected Jeremy Briscoe, a defenseman that impressed coaches and scouts at Port Huron's Pre-Draft Camp in Mt. Clemens last weekend.
Forward Bryan Yim, who played 43 games for the Fighting Falcons before his rights were traded to the Indiana Ice of the USHL, was Port Huron's next pick, at 56th overall in the third round. If Yim does not return to the Tier I USHL, the Fighting Falcons hold his Tier II rights.
Chris Morgan, a defenseman from U of D Jesuit High School was taken with the 66th pick in the third round.
Defenseman Drew Newmeyer was picked in the fourth round with the 88th overall pick. Newmeyer was a teammate of Yim with the Indiana Ice last season.
Pete McMahon became the second player from last weekend's Pre-Draft Camp selected when the Fighting Falcons made him the 90th overall selection in the draft. McMahon was a teammate of Morgan's at U of D Jesuit.
Forward Grant Meyer from the Cleveland Barons was chosen in the fifth round with the 110th pick overall.
With their final pick of the draft, the Fighting Falcons selected defenseman Nick LeSage in the sixth round, 130th overall. LeSage excelled at the team's Pre-Draft Camp.
Each player drafted by Port Huron will compete for a spot on the 2013-14 Fighting Falcons at the team's invite-only Main Tryout Camp in July. They will be joined by players signed to tender agreements throughout last season, players invited from the team's open tryout camps, and players returning from last year's team.
The Fighting Falcons will retain the Tier II rights to each drafted player, even if they are not chosen to start the season with the team.
The Fighting Falcons will return to McMorran Arena for their fourth NAHL season this fall. Season ticket packages start at just $175, and the first 25 fans to purchase two or more full season ticket packages will receive a free game-worn Fighting Falcons jersey.
